Shadyside/Friendship:

If you are looking for upscale boutiques and restaurants set in a trendy, yet historic neighborhood, Shadyside and Friendship are for you. Narrow tree-lined streets and gorgeous Victorian houses and mansions set this neighborhood apart from the rest. With three separate business districts on Walnut Street, South Highland Avenue, and Ellsworth Avenue, you can find something entertaining at any time of the day on any day of the week. 

The area features a Target at the intersection of Centre & Penn Avenues and a foot bridge connecting Ellsworth & Spahr to the East End development, which includes Whole Foods, Walgreens, Trek, and other stores.

As for transportation, Shadyside is the heart of the city, which is serviced by the Pittsburgh Port Authority. Their website is updated regularly and features a link to every bus that services the Shadyside/Friendship neighborhoods.

Oakland:

Oakland, situated in the middle of Pittsburgh’s East End, is the heart of Pittsburgh’s medical industry as well as the educational center of the city. Boasting the University of Pittsburgh and CMU as well as The Carnegie Natural History and Art Museums, parks, and art cinemas, Oakland has a culturally rich learning and living environment. Due to the cultural diversity of Oakland’s population, this neighborhood has many diverse restaurants, coffee houses, festivals, and unique shops.

Convenient bus transportation is available for quick access to Downtown Pittsburgh, Shadyside, Squirrel Hill and other unique Pittsburgh neighborhoods.

Bloomfield/Polish Hill:

The flavor of both Polish Hill and Bloomfield has a very funky and trendy feel. These neighborhoods offer unique and affordable housing while still being convenient to Oakland, Downtown and Lawrenceville.

Bloomfield is within walking distance to Lawrenceville, North Oakland, Friendship and Shadyside and boasts a very busy business district along Liberty Avenue where you can find anything Italian as well as fun bars and unique shops. Bloomfield also boasts two major Pittsburgh hospitals – West Penn Hospital and UPMC Children’s Hospital.

Polish Hill is only 1-2 Miles from The University of Pittsburgh, CMU and Duquesne University. This residential area is one of Pittsburgh’s best places for a view of Downtown Pittsburgh and is within walking distance of the Strip District, Lawrenceville, North Oakland, and Bloomfield. Bus service is available to all of the universities and Downtown Pittsburgh.

Highland Park/East Liberty:

Highland Park & East Liberty feature large single-family homes as well as beautiful Victorian houses that have been converted to apartments.

Highland Park is within walking distance to the Pittsburgh Zoo and Bryant Street which is peppered with small businesses and locally owned restaurants.

East Liberty has a thriving business district that continues to grow. Target, Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods are just some of the convenient shopping choices in the area.

Both areas have extensive bus service to Oakland, Shadyside and Downtown Pittsburgh. These neighborhoods are an excellent choice for everyone from graduate students and young professionals looking for a quiet area with access to trendy shops and restaurants to families looking for a great community to raise their families.

Morningside:

If you’re looking for a close-knit community feel, Morningside is for you. This residential neighborhood features small townhouses, single-family homes and apartments on tree-lined streets. Morningside is closely located to Lawrenceville, Highland Park and East Liberty. Just a short distance to Rt. 28, Morningside has quick access to Downtown Pittsburgh and RIDC Park. The Highland Park Zoo and PPG Aquarium are within walking distance along with small locally owned businesses.

Bus service is available to Oakland and Downtown making Morningside a great choice for students, young professionals and families alike.

Squirrel Hill:

Squirrel Hill is a lively, culturally diverse neighborhood nestled between Shadyside, Oakland, Frick Park, and Schenley Park. Situated very close to Carnegie Mellon University, Squirrel Hill is a great location for students and those wishing to be close to the education and medical center of Pittsburgh. Squirrel Hill offers diverse food and shopping options on its Murray Avenue and Forbes Avenue corridors as well as easy access to the Universities in Oakland and shopping at The Waterfront.

Point Breeze:

This quiet area, once home to H.C. Frick as well as George Westinghouse, is a neighborhood full of artists, students and families who like to be close to art centers and parks. Point Breeze features a climbing wall, the East-end Food Co-op, Free Ride bicycle shop, and Trader Joe’s,

Point Breeze is uniquely situated convenient to Squirrel Hill, Regent Square, Frick Park, and East Liberty along with its close proximity to major highways linking the area to Downtown Pittsburgh and Monroeville.
